Thought of the Week - Mental Health

Theme: Mental Health

“A child’s mental health is just as important as their physical health and deserves the same quality of support.”

  • Kate Middleton

3 children in every classroom have a mental health problem.

20% of adolescents may experience a mental health problem in any given year.

50% of mental health problems are established by age 14 and 75% by age 24.

Some of these statistics can appear daunting or difficult to understand. We live in a world where mental health is becoming more understood and more people are opening up about how they feel.  The facts can make us question whether it is us in the classroom. The important thing in all of this is to open the conversation with someone you trust to start talking about what mental health can look like.

  • What are some key bits of advice to keep physically fit?
  • What if you were giving advice to someone about their mental health and how to stay mentally fit?
  • In groups think about a campaign to promote positive mental health.  What information would you need to share with School/Parents/Government to get them thinking about the importance of mental health?
