Charlotte from Sustrans has been working alongside the urban design team in Bristol to deliver some engaging workshops on Street Design at Cranbrook Education Campus.
Three workshops have been carried out with a Year 7 PSHE class with over the course of February and March.
The first two workshops were delivered by the Charlotte, the Education Officer, that has been working with Cranbrook Education Campus over the past academic year. They explored key themes and infrastructure that contribute to streets that are good for walking and cycling as well as identifying the different users of the street (wheelchair users, parents with buggies, visually impaired). Following this, a street survey was carried out in front of the main gates, identifying issues and developing opportunities for improvements.
The third workshop was then led by the Sustrans urban design team, delivering a practical session with an opportunity for students to propose ideas for street changes they may like to see outside their school gates in the future. They used colour and plasticine for modelling ideas onto a base map of the road just outside CEC.
