Science dissection

On Thursday Year 7 got to grips with viscera! Year 7 students are working on body systems and we were looking at the respiratory system of sheep!

The organs arrived from the butchers complete with heart, lungs, liver and various other tissues and part organs. We believe strongly that no animal should be killed just to supply parts for dissection, so the viscera were taken from sheep which had already been slaughtered humanely for the meat industry.

Students had a go at inflating the lungs with a length of plastic tubing as well as looking at the lung structure of mammals. I am pleased to report that no students had to leave the lab because they were feeling queasy!

Mr Bovey really had his work cut out with the scalpel! (Sorry about the pun!)
