Reception news – 18.10.19

Well, your child’s first half term is over! Well done to every single person in Reception, what a fantastic start everybody has made. All the children are looking incredibly tired now, so time for a week off to recharge the batteries and ready to return to the build up to Christmas!!

Hopefully you will all have received the letter from the school sent out last week regarding the high level of sickness. The deep clean of our Reception class bases, shared areas and equipment has now been completed – a huge thanks to the Early Years team for rolling their sleeves up and literally scrubbing last Friday! In order to keep the germs at minimum now, please remember to keep your child off school when they are ill until they are completely better. If your child is sick or has an upset tummy for whatever reason, please remember our 48 hours after the last incident policy, to ensure the bug does not spread. Many thanks

New face!

We would like to give a huge welcome to Leanne Palmer who has recently joined our Reception Team as an additional teaching assistant and SEND support. We are really pleased to have her on board, and the children have already loved getting to know and work with her. Please say hello as you see her around!

Friday Drop ins

After half term we will be opening our doors to Reception parents/carers EVERY Friday at 2.50pm for a shared learning time with your children. There will be a different focus every week and information for you to take home.

The first Friday (1st November) our shared learning time will be a time for you to come in and share your child’s reading book and phonics book with them in school, and an opportunity to talk about different strategies to encourage your child to become an enthusiastic reader. We look forward to seeing you there – please come to the main reception at 2.45 and somebody will let you through.

Bug Hotel

After half term we will be building a bug hotel with our children in the outdoor learning area. To help us with this, we need the following –

Old tiles or slates,

Bricks

Sticks

Small piping

Hay or straw

Pebbles and stones of different sizes

If you have anything suitable that would be great – please bring anything you think may be helpful to your child’s teacher.

We are also continuing to collect resources to enhance our provision in the class bases and still require the following items. Can you help?

Wicker baskets of any size                                     wooden crates or boxes

Logs, stones or pebbles                                           wooden curtain hooks

Stainless steel jugs, sugar bowls, teapots            large wooden picture frames

We are in particular need of large wooden logs/tree stumps for children to sit on to make a listening/story area, so if you know anybody who may be able to help please let us know.

Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you all have a lovely half term break. We look forward to seeing you all back here on Monday 28th October.

Early Years Phase Leader.
