Reception Weekly News - 12/10/2018

Dear parents/carers,

We have been continuing our Biscuit Bear learning in Literacy this week, and the children were very proud of the biscuits they designed and made! They looked delicious but I was informed very politely by several children that they were not for me! Next week the children will be exploring size and measures through the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and will be planning and preparing a simple picnic for the three bears to enjoy. It would be helpful if your child could bring in their school bears to compare them in size to other teddies.

In our mud kitchen next week, we will be starting to explore autumn – please can you help by collecting any autumn leaves, acorns, conkers, interesting signs of autumn etc. that we can add to our interesting ingredients list. We will be exploring the different signs of autumn around us and the different colours.

Phonics Workshop for parents

Don’t forget our Phonics/Reading workshops for parents of our Reception children, taking place on Monday, 15th October. There will be two meetings, one at 2.30 pm and one at 5pm. Please report to the main Reception where somebody will greet you. Please note, this is a meeting aimed at parents/adults to outline the way we teach phonics and reading at the early stages and how you can help at home, so you do not need to bring your children (they get enough of Phonics during the day!) The meeting should last for no more than 40 minutes. I look forward to seeing you there. There will be a handout of information for those parents unable to attend.

Naming jumpers

Unfortunately, we still have a number of jumpers in our Reception classes at the end of every day which are not named, so it is really tricky for teachers to match them with their owners! Please can you make sure everything is named clearly – it may be worth rechecking, as after a few washes some pens fade pretty quickly. Thank you for your support in encouraging the children to keep track of their belongings, put their jumpers in the box, coats on hooks and lunch boxes in the containers – we have started to notice a bit of a difference already this week!

Half Term

A reminder to all that we break up for a week’s half term holiday on Friday 19th October, and return to Nursery on Monday 29th October.

Thank you for your continued support, please remember if you have any questions or concerns we are always available at the beginning and end of the day, or you can arrange an appointment to come and see me.

Have a lovely weekend

Julie Simpson (EYFS Lead)
