Reception Weekly News - 02/11/2018

Dear parents/carers,

Welcome back! I hope you had a lovely half term break.

Children have really enjoyed our Learning about autumn and exploring our Literacy text “Owl Babies” this week. Our potion lab role play area has been very popular, and next week we continue to think about the world around us, focusing on bonfire night and its traditions.

We are currently also busy preparing our line-up of Christmas events and will keep you posted of times and dates as they are confirmed.

Phonics Workshop for parents

Thank you so much to those of you who attended our Phonics workshop at the end of last half term. Hopefully you found it helpful. The notes from the workshop will be handed out to all families early next week. Our next workshop will be looking at early maths and how we teach this in a fun and practical way – date to be confirmed.

Parents Evenings

Our parent’s evenings take place on Tuesday and Wednesday evening next week (6th and 7th November) Both Reception bases have sign-up sheets on the doors so please book a time for your appointment if you have not already done so.

Flu Vaccine

For those of you who have signed up, the children (Reception-year 5) will be receiving their flu vaccine in school on Monday. If you have not yet signed up and wish to do so, please check the school emails you will have received regarding this, with a link to sign up.

Gardening

You will see some changes in our outdoor area as we begin to develop the gardening section. Next week the children will be planting winter bulbs and wallflowers and will be taking it in turns to be responsible for the tidying and care of the planting and growing area.

Can you help?

We are still looking for donations of unwanted curtains and duvet covers (single or double) to help us with our outdoor den building, and also plain white sheets for the children to paint on. We are also collecting any old metal/stainless steel items you may have – teapots, gravy boats, dishes, sugar bowls etc. If you have any, please can you bring them in to Nursery or direct to my office (upstairs on the Primary corridor).

Thank you for your continued support, please remember if you have any questions or concerns we are always available at the beginning and end of the day, or you can arrange an appointment to come and see me.

Have a lovely weekend

Julie Simpson (EYFS Lead)
