Dear Parent/Carer,

Following our very successful first half term I wanted to write and thank you for your continued support of the school. I also wanted to thank your children for their excellent engagement and positive behaviour in lessons and during extra-curricular clubs.

Secondary behaviour has been excellent with over 7500 merits awarded across years 7 and 8 and a current 96% positive ratio of behaviour points. To improve further students need to ensure they are bringing full equipment to school every day and completing all homework on time. To support this, form tutors check equipment every morning and we offer a Maths homework club every Monday and general homework clubs on Wednesday and Thursday after school. You can keep up-to-date on your child’s behaviour and homework via the ClassCharts app.

At 97% our attendance is excellent, but it could be better! Our aim is for 100%. If your child is unwell then you need to call the school and inform us first thing in the morning. All absences will be logged as unauthorised until you contact the school. Can I remind you that non-urgent medical appointments should not be taken during school hours and students will also be marked as having an unauthorised absence if they are late after the register has closed? We follow Devon County Council’s attendance policy so please look there for further information.

We are delighted to be offering such an extensive range of extra-curricular activities (see attached). We want as many students as possible to be engaging with extra-curricular clubs, so please encourage this at home. As well as after school clubs we have now launched our daily breakfast club between 08:00-08:35 where students can help themselves to cereal and toast free of charge.

Students have been wearing their uniform with pride and members of the public often comment on how smart they look. Regarding PE kit please ensure that students are in either the school’s branded T-shirt or sweatshirt, either plain black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, plain black socks and suitable trainers. After half term students will be taking part in a module of hockey. To participate safely they are required to wear a gum shield, shin pads and long socks to keep shin pads in place. We have a small number of shin pads to loan, but are unable to lend out socks or gum shields. Gum shields will need to be moulded before coming to school. If you have any problems or questions about the equipment please contact Clare Toomey: cjt@cranbrookeducationcampus.co.uk If your son or daughter is pupil premium, we will happily supply a gum shield.

I wanted to thank you for your support with the recent closure of the car park. The majority of our students walk, cycle or scoot to school which has been proven to be beneficial to their physical and mental wellbeing. As the winter months arrive, please ensure students have appropriate lights and are wearing helmets.

Hopefully you have now all seen our new website and noticed the regular updates to the news section. These updates are also being shared via our official Facebook and Twitter streams. Please like or follow to stay informed of all the fantastic things happening. You can also download the GroupCall Xpressions app to get updates direct to your phone. If you have any questions or concerns, you can email us on secondary@cranbrookeducationcampus.org.uk and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. You can also give your feedback via Ofsted’s ParentView at any time. Our active PTA called FACES is always looking for new members and you can email them on FACES@cranbrookeducationcampus.org.uk to find out more.

I hope you all have a lovely half term break and the weather is dry so there is chance to explore the beautiful Devon countryside, beaches and attractions. Hopefully I’ll see lots of you at the University Families day at the University of Exeter campus on Saturday 29th from 10.30am. Attached are the future dates for your diaries and other key information. Students will get their autumn reports in the middle of November and we are already confident of their excellent progress.

We look forward to welcoming students back at 08.35 on Tuesday 1st November.

Yours faithfully,

Stephen Farmer
Head of Secondary
