Orchid Class Poem by Benjamin Zaphaniah

This week in Orchid class we have been learning about the positive and negative side to differences. We did a class assembly on prejudice, discrimination and racism. We discussed what happened in America and the civil rights movement and the apartheid in South Africa. We talked about what it would be like to walk into a room and for people to judge us without knowing us.

We listened and then performed (see our video) a poem written by Benjamin Zephaniah about respecting and celebrating differences. As a class we decided we should be welcoming towards anyone, regardless of skin colour, nationality and where we are from and live.
