Nursery News 29.4.19

Welcome back everybody, hope you had a lovely Easter break. A particularly big welcome to all our new starters in Nursery this term. It has been lovely to see how well the children coming in to Blue Base and moving up from Blue Base to Red/Yellow Bases have settled in, and how welcoming our existing children have been to their new friends. Our first couple of weeks back will focus on recapping all of our Nursery rules, ways to help each other and how to care for our Nursery environment.

School Allocation

Those of you with children due to start school in September should have received your confirmation of a school place during the Easter holidays. I know I have had a conversation with some of you who didn’t get your first choice school – it is still possible for you to appeal against this decision, ideally before next week when Devon will be looking at the second round of allocations. The website address for appeals is

New Reception starters at Cranbrook

If you have had your child’s Reception place confirmed at Cranbrook Education Campus, you will be receiving a welcome letter in the next couple of days, outlining our Transition programme. If you have any questions following this letter please do not hesitate to contact me via email If you are allocated a school place as a result of appeal, we will contact you with this transition information as soon as your child has been transferred to our admissions list.

Exciting News!

I am thrilled to be able to tell you that Mrs Katie Clements, our Nursery teacher in Red Base, is having a baby!! Baby Clements will be making his/her entry into the world in October, but is growing rapidly and Katie can’t hide it for much longer! We are delighted for her and her husband, and will all be making sure that she is well looked after until she begins her maternity leave in the Autumn term. We will keep you informed of arrangements for maternity cover nearer the time.

Nursery Uniform

It is lovely to see children wearing our new green Nursery t-shirts, they really do look colourful. May I remind you that these are available to buy or order online from Honiton Sports shop. From September, green will be the only colour option for the Nursery t-shirt.

Sun protection

I know we all got very excited at the end of the Easter holidays and then summer disappeared again, but please be prepared for a change in weather. We will continue to be learning outside as the weather gets warmer – PLEASE CAN YOU ENSURE YOU PROVIDE YOUR CHILD WITH A NAMED SUNHAT, A T-SHIRT OR TOP WHICH COVERS THE SHOULDERS AND A BOTTLE OF NAMED SUN CREAM. We have a form for you to sign in Nursery to give us permission to apply the sun cream. It is most helpful if you can provide cream which can be left in Nursery so we can store it centrally. We recommend factor 30, and the cheaper brands from supermarket have been proven to be just as effective as the more expensive named brands.

Thank you as always, for your continued support. Do not hesitate to contact me or one of the team if you have any questions or concerns. Have a lovely week.

Kind regards,

Julie Simpson
