Nursery Weekly News - 02/11/2018

Dear parents/carers,

Welcome back! I hope you had a lovely half term – now the fun really begins as we begin to count down to Christmas (not sure if the children or the staff will be more excitable nearer the time!) We are currently busy preparing our line-up of Christmas events and will keep you posted of times and dates as they are confirmed.

Next week

We continue to look at the changes and colours occurring as we are well and truly into autumn now – please continue to bring in special autumn items which you may find when you are out and about. All our Nursery bases will be thinking about bonfire night and keeping safe next week, and talking about the beautiful patterns and colours we see when we watch fireworks.

New gate

At some point next week, the current entry gate to Nursery from our side playground will be moved to the bottom end of our Nursery outdoor area (next to our wooden shed and opening on to our bottom playground.) Once this is done, parents will bring children in this way and enter this way at the end of the session. The reason for this is to ease congestion at busy times of the day as our Primary numbers grow, and also to make it easier for our Nursery children to vacate the area in case of fire.

Parents Evenings

Our Nursery Parents evenings will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday next week (6th/7th November) from 3.30-5pm. These meetings are an opportunity for you to drop in at any point during this time – there is not an appointment system– and take some time to look at your child’s Learning Journey and meet with the staff. Our focus in every room will be on “creating a natural environment” and there will be a chance for you and your child to explore some of the activities we plan for the children using natural and open ended resources.

Parent workshops

Don’t forget our first parent/carer workshop will be held very soon! Our first one will look at how we teach the early stages of phonics, through active games, songs and practical resources. There will be opportunity for you to help make some resources for us to share with our nursery children too! The date of this meeting is Monday 12th November – there will be a choice of two meetings, one at 2.15pm and one at 6pm. The meetings will last for approximately 40 minutes, and are aimed at parents/carers from all our Nursery age group. From Monday, there will be a list to sign up for these on our outside notice boards.

Can you help?

We are still looking for donations of unwanted curtains and duvet covers (single or double) to help us with our outdoor den building, and also plain white sheets for the children to paint on. We are also collecting any old metal/stainless steel items you may have – teapots, gravy boats, dishes, sugar bowls etc. If you have any, please can you bring them in to Nursery or direct to my office (upstairs on the Primary corridor).

Thank you for your continued support. Please remember that we are always available at the beginning and end of the day if you have any questions or concerns, or you can make an appointment to see me.

Have a lovely weekend,

Julie Simpson EYFS LEAD
