Issues raised via Parents facebook page

  • Following on from discussions at last meeting Parents have appreciated the dates for the rest of the term given out from Primary.
  • Concerns have been raised regarding when Primary children and parents will know who their class teacher will be/structure of primary classes next year.

Response from Mrs McCarthy – Nursery and Foundation parents have received information about staffing and who their children’s teachers are and dates have been shared with parents for transition days. Nursery and Reception parents have also been invited to transition meetings. Comprehensive information packs and opportunities for children and parents to meet our staff are provided too. We have also been lucky enough to have had our new Reception and Nursery staff visiting the school on a number of occasions to quietly spend time with their future pupils. As parents will be aware our Year Two and Year children have already spent time with their future class teachers as Mr Boyle was able to spend three days with the class and Mr Evans has taken a number of opportunities to work with Year One this half term. Our new KS1 phase leader and Year One class teacher, Mr Kevin Pratt is an assistant head of a large school and it is quite difficult for him to take time to travel to Cranbrook this term- however I’m delighted that he will be able to meet his class during a transition morning on July 12th (This will be communicated to parents through an information pack being sent out on Friday) As Mrs Doherty has been unwell for some time this term we have needed to wait a little while to be able discuss and finalise class structure for Year 1 and this information will be included in the packs going home. As ever myself, Mrs Chivers and other members of the teaching team are always on hand to chat to about any details or concerns that parents may have.

Confirmation of DBS requirements for parent volunteers:

  • Following discussion regarding parent volunteers at school trips/events school confirmed that you can undertake 3 days of voluntary work within a school setting without a DBS check needed as long as volunteers are not left alone with children.

Dates, times and venue of future meetings:

  • From next year teachers with have a rota for attending PTA meetings with hopefully a teacher from each phase present. They would be able to stay until 7pm therefore to trial a time change to 6-7pm to see if this enables more parents to attend.
  • Have investigated possible use of Cranberry Farm as an alternative venue but unfortunately they do not have a separate room we can use. To remain an option for any ‘drop in’, information type meetings for any parents to attend if these would be useful to organise.
  • Dates made for Autumn Term meetings – 11th Sept, 9th Oct and 20th Nov all 6-7pm

Date of Next Meeting: Monday 11th September 2017 at 6pm
