Cranbrook has entered its first football tournament with the Year 7 and 8 girls team who represented us! First of all we would like thank Exeter City Football in The Community and all those associated with the Catherine Fraser Memorial Tournament for inviting us. It was a fantastic day which was thoroughly enjoyed by all for a very special purpose. All seven of the girls were a credit to Cranbrook as they displayed resilience, courage and camaraderie, they entered the tournament knowing that all the other teams were a full year above them; and likely to have been training and playing together for at least 3 years or more. We were drawn into a very difficult group which included the eventual winners and runners up of the tournament, and I must admit the standard was even higher than expected. Each game was treated as a learning curve and the girls improved with each game. The matches became more competitive and with a more clinical edge Cranbrook would have taken some points. After the group phase we moved into the Plate knockout phase against Dawlish and Tor Bridge. Despite an encouraging performance the girls eventually lost to Dawlish. However against Tor Bridge, Cranbrook raced into an early 2 goal lead with both goals sublimely scored by Jasmine M, from then on Cranbrook had to defend resolutely and managed to eventually win 2-1! Unfortunately we narrowly missed out on progressing in the Plate phase of the competition. Nevertheless Chloe, Jasmine, Lily, Coral, Kayleigh, Charli-Anne and Tegan can all be massively proud of their performance and how they represented Cranbrook, as they were a credit to the Campus. The experience was very beneficial and they will take what they have learned into the next tournament at St Luke’s on March 29th where the boys will also be entering a team.
