In Year 3, our Geography topic this half term has been Mountains, Volcanoes and Earthquakes. We have enjoyed learning about the structure of our Earth and the way in which Tectonic plates slowly move against each other until occasional sudden jolts cause Earthquakes and Volcanoes to occur. We are feeling comforted that we don’t suffer from large Earthquakes in this country (even accounting for unexploded WW2 bombs found in Exeter). The children have really enjoyed this topic and we using our knowledge to build different types of volcanoes out of clay and also designing structures to try and withstand a brilliant earthquake simulator made by the Secondary Science Technician.
Following the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland, our volcanoes may erupt next week and so more photos to follow in due course.
